As an entrepreneur with a startup or small business owner, you’re probably constantly planning about how to get ahead.
You go to bed at night thinking of all the things you need to do to progress and improve your success. And that’s okay.
But you’re also probably thinking about 20 different things you need to build or improve.
And on and on and on.
So just stop for a minute.
Pause and take a breath.
You can accomplish all these things but if you attempt to do it all at once you WON’T progress.
What you need is FOCUS.
You need to concentrate on one thing at a time. Yes, ONE thing.
Not 20 or 8 or even 2 things.
One.
One. Thing. At. A. Time.
Because in order to be successful you need to master what you do and if you spread yourself too thinly, you won’t master anything.
Focus on one thing. Master it. Move on.
Think back to where you were, 5 or even 10 years ago. What did you say to your business self then when someone asked you what your goals were for the coming 5 or 10 years?
Now, consider how many of those goals you’ve accomplished. If you attempted to do them all at once, you probably still have most of them still to achieve.
You see, it doesn’t matter how many dreams or goals you have or even if you’re totally committed to achieve them. If you don’t plan them out and focus on one at a time, chances are that fulfilling your goals will be a struggle.
And it really is that simple.
But I get it. You need to move fast – you see businesses suddenly popping up all over social media shouting about their success or your potential competitors talking about how they became a success virtually overnight (they didn’t) and the temptation is that you want to get there too. And fast. Like yesterday. And to do that you need to do 100 things at once.
But please remember that…
You can’t do 100 things at once.
And if you try to do 100 things at once, you’ll get nowhere.
If you get nowhere, you’ll fail.
You don’t want to fail, so don’t do 100 things at once.
But what about your competition? What about all those ‘overnight successes’ that popped up from nowhere, led by driven entrepreneurs who put in 100 hours a week doing 100 things at once?
Don’t listen to those stories, because they’re simply not true. You don’t know their journey to the ‘success’ they’ve achieved. And you’re on your own path anyway.
Make your own story. Take your time.
Be successful by completing your goals, one at a time.
And it just may take a little longer than you thought it might. But remember, no successful business was built overnight. So, don’t try to run before you can walk because it will just take longer anyway.
Focus is key to everything.
